I'm blaming the media!
Having to fill the 24/7 on-line-all-the-time constant newsstream they've been desperately casting about for anybody who can string a couple of sentences together and be some kind of a "correspondent". Local TV is so full of dipsy media school wanna-be's acting as "experts"...if you're on TV or have a blog, then you're an authority. Remind anybody of the movie "Network"?
They'll believe you.
Why?
Because you're on TELEVISION, idiot!
This has gotten so bad that my seventeen year old daughter has printed up business cards for herself that state that she's a "Lifestyle Correspondent". After seeing the ding-dongs that appear on TV and tell you what's "in", she figgered that her opinion was as good as anybody else's so why not?

I'm guessing that this idiot is actually in the UK. If you click on the link in the US it takes you to the nearest syndicated paper that carries it, I assume by using your IP address, but he supports the same English soccer club that I do (I wish it was a different one).
What he is doing isn't really a fashion column atall. Instead of featuring all the neat latest stuff, he devotes all his energy to being a fashion dictator. Style is not about looking a clone of other people, as he seems to think. Ignore him.

I just want to give a standing ovation to Rocky from USA Kilts for his addition to this individual's "style" blog. If you haven't had a chance to read it, please do so.

Fashion is such a load of crock anyway. If there was no fashion industry, then we'd only have to buy new clothes when the old ones wore out, but because there are seasonal trends, it drives us to "keep up". Blind, greedy consumerism at its core.

I solve that problem by not giving a wet slap about fashion (of course, I'm a guy who wears a kilt with hawai'ian shirts and a pith helmet, so what would I have to do with fashion?).

poor sod. Well we can't be too hard on him; freedom can be a scary thing, and sticking out/being an individual goes against the heard mentality.

If "fashion" had any value, it wouldn't need to be changed every year. Classics endure because they have inherent worth, and can be worn for decades, with only gradual, minor changes taking place as the old clothes wear out after long service.
But this does not provide employment for those whose business is to convince you that you need something new just because the style has changed. So fortunes are spent (and made) by trying to convince people they should give up what they are wearing for something else.
