Kilted Skirts?

I always regard a kilt without a sewn down fell at the top of the pleats as a kilted skirt, whether worn by man or woman. So if a lady wears a garment with the fringe on her left then its a ladies kilt if it has a sewn down fell and its a ladies kilted skirt if it lacks this feature. I don't have an issue with ladies wearing kilts or kilted skirts which are obviously designed for ladies. What I do find more difficult to accept is the sight of women pipers wearing men's kilts with the fringe and the kilt pin to their right, but maybe there is a sensible reason for this, perhaps to conserve the uniformity of the band's appearance.

I'm in this camp, myself. My wife has two "hostess" style kilted skirts, one in Black Stewart and one in Clergy to match two of my kilts. They are obviously not kilts, and are very feminine. I don't see a problem with pleated skirts at all. Yes, women in Prince Charlie jackets and kilts and such do look like cross dressers to my eye. Those are masculine garments. However, just because a woman wears a pleated skirt does not mean that she's wearing a kilt.

I apologize. I am a naturally opinionated person, and sometimes let them get the best of me. I didn't see the Introduction section at first, I guess I'll go to the front page and look for it.

Honestly, I'm not such a bad guy, and look forward to future discussions with you.

I somewhat hold this point of view also. I find it rather out of place that women wear sporrans. If they played sports, would they wear a jock straps/athletic supporters?

Not that I have anything at all against transvestism. Why, some of my best friends are transvestites. In fact, some of my best weekends have been....nevermind.

I don't mind seeing a woman in a lady's kilt or a pleated skirt (in fact I rather enjoy watching the swish of the pleats on my wife's skirt.) I do not, however, care to see a woman in a man's kilt, an Argyle, PC, or sporran. It just doesn't seem correct to my eye.

I like seeing ladies in tartan skirts. I am not so keen on ladies wearing the kilt,even when playing in a pipe band.

There is nothing nicer than a woman wearing a kilted skirt or mini kilt If the ladies in a pipe band were dressed differently it would look like a pigs breakfast what would they wear anyway trousers?

I reluctantly have to agree with you about there being no alternative to ladies wearing the kilt whilst playing in a pipe band. I am still not too keen on the look though. Sorry ladies.
