I used to work in a bar; there's a very good reason I don't drink.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

That specific incident has not happened to me, but I been talked to many times by drunken individuals that think I'd be funny for me to do stuff that I would consider degrading to not only myself but to kilt wearers all over. Most of the time they don't even think that what they are saying is really that offensive, so I just let it go, and respectfully decline.

Sorry to hear about your incident. There are many responses but the best is to just let it go and walk away.

This is why I am reluctant to have kilt nights at pubs. Even an Irish Pub. I just can imagine some jerk coming up and saying something to the group that is highly inappropriate. And that they would normally not say something if they had been more sober.

Oh, Duchess, that's easily addressed in any number of ways! We all just look at the ... err at him, look at each other, and fall out laughing. If he doesn't catch on that we're laughing at him, we point and laugh.

If the mood strikes, we point at his trousers and laugh.

Or, we just leave him to you. Eedjit? What eedjit?

    Handled quite well

I think you handled the situation quite well, the retort about the kilt was right on. There is nothing feminine or girlie about a proper kilt.

One of the things I have noticed is how the more insecure someone is the more they will try and cover up with bragidiousness and bravado. The guy who is obnoxious and tail chasing, spouting off about difference of others, is usually afraid of the reality between his own two ears. My advice is to ignore them, never get into a P**sing contest with a skunk.
