    On another note, where historical threads are concerned, new information may come along that will enhance one's understanding of a past event, thus I see nothing wrong with adding to such posts that might be 2, 3, or 4 years old.

    Case in point, Jock Scot had some more pictures relating to a thread he & I created on the McDonells of Keppoch. So rather than create a new thread we just added these photos to the existing thread. And funny thing, we received some more messages thanking us for providing this history

    I agree with you on that but often the revived threads are either full of those "nice kilt" and "good for you" kind of posts that don't add much to the discussion or deal with something that has been resolved long ago. Significantly new insights or information are always welcome but wading through al of of chaff puts one off. Perhaps if the respondent started a new thread and would just cut and paste the appropriate text from the old thread, it might make things more clear.
