Blanket Jacket
I'm not much of a DIYer when it comes to clothing, but I have done something along these lines! I felt the need for a warm kilt jacket that would fit in at ren faires.
I got a pullover style blanket coat from Jas Townsen , http://jas-townsend.com/product_info...roducts_id=221 and cut it using another kilt jacket as a pattern. I had a friend machine sew the hem along the placket and the button holes, all the other edges are unfinished. The sleeves were plenty long, so I turned up and cut the cuffs gauntlet style and hand sewed them down. I also added some faux pocket flaps cut from the excess material, a few fake horn buttons and had a nice warm jacket that came in handy at the chilly Texas Ren Fest last week;

That's my friend Sandy, who unlike me, has mad sewing skills and makes all her fair grab from scatch.
