Blanket Kilt Jacket
After reading Puffers thread on Blanket coats I've decided to make one that was cut to fit a kilt. I was going to use the one I have, but I've decided to leave it alone and instead make a new one. After a brief search I ordered a pattern from Track Of The Wolf http://www.trackofthewolf.com/(S(jkf...NUM=PATTERN-90 .I'll be using a much cheaper blanket than the Hudson Bay ones ( have you priced those? ).
I was wondering if anyone would like to see a step by step account of my making one. If so, I'll do it when I get the pattern, I already have everything else I need.

I'd like to see it step-by-step.
Most reenacting sutlers carry the same patterns at about the same price. My patterns came from Townsend. Have you seen their jacket?

Yes, I would be interested in watching it go from blanket to coat.

Yes, I would love to see a step-by-step, too. I've been wanting to make a blanket top of some sort for my brother.

Yes, please post pics and step-by-step. I find that seeing detailed pictures helps alot whether I make it myself or not. Even if I don't make it, I appreciate the workmanship that went into it even more.

For those considering making a jacket, here's some incentive. Vermont's Barre Army Navy Store has a promotion going on today. Enter coupon code "blanket" to get 20% off. Happy hunting!

I just got the pattern today. I'll start posting my progress the first part of next week (Tuesday-ish).
I'll be using a cheap donor blanket on this first one, the practice jacket. I'm going to get a real good one for the next one, probably a Pendleton. I've looked at the Pendletons online and they have some very nice patterns. The Chief Joseph is one of my favorites.
Stay tuned.
Tips and suggestions are welcome.
Here's a list of what you'll need-
Blanket - an el cheapo is best if you've never done this before.
Pattern
Pins
Sewing Needles
Sewing machine (Optional). I have arthritis in my hands which means I can't do a lot of handsewing. A machine is a must have for me.
Tailors Chalk
Scissors
Cat. (A dog or small child will do in a pinch). I was sewing a leather sporran once and my cat got tangled in the thread. He then decided to run. Ever chase a sporran?
Pics and progress reports will start appearing early next week if nothing happens.

Don't panic! I'll start posting the step by step progress ASAP. I'm working long hours on several landscape jobs plus repairing irrigation systems other contractors have screwed up installing gas, phone, cable, power lines and anything else that goes underground.
