I have sporran hangers from Donnie at Wyvern Leatherworks
Scroll to the bottom of that page.
They snap as well, but they are not as thick as you described and have always worked well for me.
Pretty nice for only a $10.00 investment.
He also makes the leather sporran belt.
I haven't used one of his belts yet, but have one on order.
I don't have any of Oconee Leather Works yet, but know plenty of people that do that really like his as well.
One of his kilt belts is on my must have list.

Thanks for the helpful replies. I will definitely try using a leather sporran strap. I also like the look of those hangers from SWK and Wyvern. I think I could wear either strap or hangers OK since I am only "semi-prosperous" LOL.

I use their braided leather slings. I purchase the sling, kilt belt, sporran, and sporran belt together. They make everything from the same leather which gives a nice complete look.

My own opinion is that sporran hangers look awful. I'm with the guys who who use a leather strap for casual wear. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, buy a thin ladies' belt from Target or Walmart.

I have materials set aside to make some hangers, but I like look of the narrow belt that came with my L&M leather sporran several years ago; unfortunately Scooby appropriated the strap along with the sporran. I am currently reduce to a 1" nylon web belt; I don't know how that will look with the badger.

I'm not a fan of the hangers either, though I can see where some would like them

I got some hangers, but I don't like them.
I like a strap.

Ditto! I also have a leather sporran strap from Oconee which I actually purchased first.
I have a fairly big belly and found that using the strap was inconvenient because it tended to sag down below my belly leaving the sporran inconveniently low (both from the standpoint of accessing the sporran and because it bounced against my upper thighs).
The sporran hangers solve both problems for me. I've been losing weight and will probably eventually return to the strap, but for now the hangers are great! They also are much easier to attach and detach than the strap.

Oconee Leather Works Sporran Hangers
I prefer to wear a belt at my waist, even with kilts where it's not necessary. However, that leads to having 2 belts, since a belt at the wasit is too high to be the sporran strap. So I like sporran hangers. I just got a pair from Oconee Leather Works, and an extra to use as a key ring hanger. I love them already. The leather is fairly thick, but still flexible, the hardware is nice and solid. I have a pair from SWK that I don't like nearly as well. The learther is stiffer, and the hardware seems cheap.
