yep, and the US "copper cent" is actually zinc, with a thin coating of copper. Also, I have heard it costs more to mint that the face value. I am old enough to remember when the metal in the coin was also it's value.

I also agree that if you can't do anything about a situation, look for the humor. It is always there.

Considering the amount of money that it would take to recover the value of my investment portfolio, I have moved retirement into the "unlikely" list.

In the last month the price of a litre of petrol has dropped below one pound, and with the money off coupon from the supermarket, it cost us less than 90pence per litre when we last filled up the car.

The cost of the foods I buy has actually fallen, as the Government is encouraging the use of all fruit and vegetables, including the misshapen and smaller ones.

It is true that the value of our house has fallen, but it is still far above what we paid for it and we finished paying for it long ago.

Although we had invested a few thousand pounds in an Icelandic bank our account was transferred and the money is still there, though earning less interest than before.

All in all it isn't all that bad, and it could have been a lot worse.

We are eating smaller carrots, and bendier bananas, but that is about all.
