I'd laugh if my hard earned, WELL invested 401K wasn't down 35%! I imagine for those who didn't diversify conservatively enough, or who had little or no choice, the losses have been much greater. We're in a pickle, and I'm not talking baseball!

Fortunately, I'm already broke and unemployed (starving student and all that), so I'm not loosing anything, and the job I hope to have (after grad school, of course) has very good job security.

The way I see it we have three choices- grip about the financial mess, say nothing , or laugh.
As a minister I often see the worst every week, so any opportunity to laugh is welcome.

They are "only paper losses" until we sell. Try to wring some consolation from that.
Stock prices have tumbled because buyers have disappeared. [irony] If we could stop eating and using shelter, grocery and housing prices would drop also.
It's a great time to die so your estate will largely escape taxation. [/irony]

Actually I think it is the Bureau of Engraving that prints paper money.
And, yes, Brother George Washington would be aghast.
I've decided to liquidate my assets while they still have some value and put the money in sow belly futures.

My wife's mutual funds which we were going to use this year to get a home loan lost over 50% in value since spring, it's really sickening. We need a house so I don't have to deal with crazy anti-kilt mom anymore. (we live in one of her rental apartments)

Were you aware that the Canadian dollar (a coin) is called the "Loonie" because it has an image of that evening bird, the loon, on its reverse? And that the Canadian two-dollar coin has a name that perfectly fits Canadians' attitude towards the monetary system: it's a "Toonie".
