The Aprons on the red example you show, and the ones in your link open on the left. The first thing you will need to do is reverse this. It is a simple matter of re-positioning the straps and making a button hole on the oppisite side.
The Red Skirt has a good wide apron but the ones in your link have narrow aprons. Which style are on the skirt you are actually using?

Neither really. I was trying to show the flatter front but more pleats at the back style. This is closest.

About 2.5 weeks to the play - 12/21.
I've done alterations/modifications to clothes and costumes before, but never made something from scratch (otherwise I might have thought about doing that).
