Certainly a cause I'll celebrate, kilted, down at my local pub, but historically, always a source of mixed emotion for me: my grandparents and their siblings enjoyed a nicer standard of living during "Big Pro", as they were all able to step-up their involvement with moonshining & black marketing & even some over-border activities in Quebec. Come the repeal, it was right back to the hardscrabble life of logging, and smack in the Great Depression, no less!
But, it'll be me & Johnny (Jameson) & Art (Guinness), sharing toasts with friends & neighbors, kith, kin & clan; this past year, the Reaper, wearing his own tartan of blood & tears, has taken from our hearth two old firends, a nephew & my only daughter, so we'll be well visited from the Far Shore as well.
So SLAINTE, say I, slainte mhath!

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter and nephew, as well as your friends. I lost my mother recently, so I can relate.
I'll raise a glass (at least in spirit) to them and you today.
