I lived in the Monterey Bay area in the early 80's (thanks to Uncle Sam) and loved it...circumstances kept me from returning. But all this talk of kilt nights and kilted armies in Northern Cal (not to mention the weather contrast between there and Iowa) have me wishing I had never left. Best wishes!

Perhaps this will be the Kilt Night to beat all Kilt Nights!

WOW! This is sounding good, and I am feeling considerably more than a little flattered by your responses, lads.
I just wish I might have been more mobile whilst visiting The Golden State in March/April, but I'll be staying with my British pal, Jim, who has a wee place in Palm Springs. Unfortunately, he does not have a car (no need for one apparently as he does not 'stray' from PS once he gets there!), and there is no way I would drive over there - why, you all drive on the wrong side of the road ....... something I do only when I've had too many drams!!
Looking forward to meeting you all.
Take care,
Ham.

We'll figure something out, either a pub near Palm Springs or nearby, have somebody with vehicle capacity (that's one drawback to a pick-up truck though sometimes that's a good thing ...) swing by to pick Hamish and company up.
There's Killarney's in Temecula that's been very kilt-friendly when I've been there, don't know about places out near the springs.
CT - workin' on it
ps: got me some sweet new oxfords (Dockers Manhattans)

There's a new Tilted Kilt Pub in the works in Indian Wells, it may well be open by then...

...plus Lyon's English Grille is in South Palm Springs, and has a great tavern. It's also very close to Motel 6 and other lodging for those who travel far...

I'd certainly prefer something like Lyon's over Hoo. . . I mean, Tilted Kilt.
Thanks for the suggestions, Sarge!

Cool deal, I may well get to meet some of the more notable kilties from XMTS besides the Nor Cal Rabble.
