I do fencing at college on the club/team (though it's not much) fencing foil and possibly moving to the others once I'm better. The other fencers all know I wear kilts regularly and I've been wondering about going to some of the lower key practices in one, but with the jackets I can't see a good way to do so, so I haven't, but I imagine it gives Great mobility.

My girlfriend has been fencing for 4 years and got me started on it at college. I'm hoping to keep doing it.

It's not that bad, really. Of course, you can't go regimental with canvas trying to work its way up, and depending on the jacket, you have to take the kilt off to remove the jacket, but its not that bad. I did it for my halloween costume. I have a front button jacket, which I think helped a bit.

They have fencing in the SCA, and quite a few kilted fencers (though you have to have 100% leg coverage under the kilt to comply with regs).

Also, SCA fencing is done "in the round" instead of inline, and there are no right-of-way rules.

Wow, I haven't fenced since college! I really liked it alot, but never got back into it afterwards. Kinda old, slow and stiff for such now.

I would love to learn Re-Enactor sword work.

The Problem is I don't know who teaches in the Southern Ontario area.

I took foil fencing for a while. It was fun, but now I'm doing medieval German longsword (live steel), which I enjoy much more.

I took a semester of foil fencing in college - really enjoyed it. I've thought often of taking it up again for fun. In my college class, we had a couple of guys who were a bit too aggressive - resulted in many foils that were bent 180 degrees, much to the chagrin of the instructor.

Fencing is all about control. As far as point in line, the saber scores on the edge, not the point... So point in line is not a bad thing...

I too fenced when I went back to College after Viet-Nam. They just didn't understand that I was actually trying to kill the other guy.

I did take part in the MN State Championships two years in a row.
1st in Foil and 2nd in Epee first year & 2nd in Epee and 1st in Sabre the second year.
It was the left handed thing that threw everyone off. Just luck really but I had a lot of fun.

That was a long time ago. Let's see if I remember, the pointy part goes towards the other guy right?
