    Feds Raid California Kilt Store

Apparently looking for seal skin sporrans (though the article suggests kilts made of seal skin)

The officers, who were with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries Service, entered Celtic Craft Centre at 380 N. Palm Canyon Drive about 12:30 p.m. They searched the premises and questioned employees.

Part of the federal department's responsibilities is to monitor the illegal importation of marine mammals, said Donald Masters, special agent in charge.

U.S. law prohibits the importation of marine mammals and marine mammal products into the United States, under the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972.

Hmmm, hope it's not a trend.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

What's weird is that in the article I read, the reporter writes that the SAIC said "Some of the items in the store, such as kilts, may have been made out of seal fur,".

Really? That might explain why it took hours for multiple agents to search one shop.

I'm betting the reporter screwed that one up.

Yeah, even if there was one made of seal, I don't think I would wear it... Can you imagine how hot it would be?

But, worn fur-side-in, that could be so comfortable.

Having been the subject of numerous news articles back when I was teaching environmental science in the 80's I can tell you that reporters screw up about 1/4 of everything they write.

    A sealskin kilt? NOT.

I have some llama wool that I'm trying to get spun into yarn. I'll let you know how it turns out.
