    I'm not an expert either.
There is the thicker facing on the edge of the apron that the pin could go through. Although, I've been thinking of using the blanket pin I have on my kilt. I don't think I want to put that through the facing. It seems a little too close to the edge of the apron anyway.

On the thinner pins, I always put a piece of a rubberband on the pin, so it wont fall off the kilt if the clasp comes open.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Yes, this is very good advice.

This I should do as I have either misplaced or lost a kilt pin somehow.

I've heard that the eraser off of a pencil works even better.

I have a Zebra pin that is very dear to me because Moosedog gave it to me. I just can't risk losing it. Sometimes I use it as a hat pin, almost like a clan badge, when I am not wearing a kilt. I do the same rubberband thing with the hat pins too.

I've used this method, but the darn thing keeps falling off on me (the eraser, not the pin).
