I find the "New Posts" feature very useful. . . although I probably spend more time online than most of you (working at my home computer much of the day, many days). But "New Posts" lets me scan through, ignoring (sorry) most of the Welcome Newbie posts and cherry-picking the others. And once I discovered that "go to last un-read" feature in each thread, well, I feel the POWER!
