    Sydnie,

It is a functional third pocket that came with the jacket originally (it is hard to see in the first photo as the lighting is bad). Ken is correct that these are called ticket pockets. The F-H.C.A.G. was able to save the lower two pockets without closing them, but they are shallow and best for very small lightweight items. In contrast the "ticket pocket" is quite deep and useful. I keep my keys in it.

    Cheers

    Got it now, thanks!

Still think it adds to the "balance" of shortened jacket, will have to keep that in mind even when it's not part of the original construction. . .

While I have no skill myself to do these sort of alterations , I do think that the most crucial element for a successful conversion is to find the right jacket in the first place. It would seem to save a lot of time and effort and the end result will be far better for the tailor / seamstress.

    Cheers

I am getting ready to start a jacket conversion and am wondering for reference how tall is Jamie and what size jacket was used in this conversion and how much material was taken off the bottom? sorry for the terrible syntax. I really appreciate the help.
    cheers.

    Looks great!
I'd love to do that with some of the jackets I dont wear but I'm not great at sewing!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Jamie is 5 ft 11 inches, the jacket was a size 40. I cut enough off the bottom so it looked good over his kilt (in other words-I just had him put it on, marked it with chalk and chopped it off-sorry, I didn't measure, not even once, despite the old adage of "measure twice, cut once").

I'm not exactly a precise seamstress, just an intermittently prolific one!

    Be well,

    And that's just fine Star!

A mark of great talent in something is sometimes the ability to make things up as you go.

Often that leads to a very custom garment.
