Orange-
Here's why:
If you were designing an Argyll hose to match this tartan it would be predominately orange with blue and green diamonds. Although the orange is a bit bright for hose, it wouldn't be as "visually jarring" as the green hose beneath the predominately orange tartan of the kilt. It just seems to tone better as orange.
For what it's worth, I really think that the best option would be diced hose using the orange and the dark blue. It just looks classier and doesn't have the "neither fish, nor fowl" look that solid hose with argyll tops presents.
Cordially,
David

I'd like to mention that these hose will not be going with a regimental outfit. The individual will be wearing a prince charlie coat with the 78th kilt.-Josh

Definitely, orange. My wife and both like the orange better, although the green is nice, too.

Actually, there is historical precedent for it. In John Scurr and Mike Chappel's history of the Malayan Emergency, there is an artist's depiction of an officer of the Cameronian Regiment wearing solid hose with Douglas tartan tops. I've also seen a depiction of a piper of the 10th Princess Mary's Gurkha Rifles wearing tartan hose in Stewart Hunting with diced tops.

Hello,
Between those two choices, I would go with the orange for the main body of the hose.

I missed this from when I originally looked at this thread last night, to when I posted a minute ago. With this tartan I think those last would really be the right thing to go with, tartan hose with orange and green diced tops. Seriously. With this tartan, go BIG.
