I guess Rocky has his 8 yd wool kilts made in Scotland as best as I can tell from the USAK site. I have a feeling I am not understanding your question though.

Anyway, I think Rex had one through USAK and posted a thread on it... I can't recall which tartan it was, but he gave a good review.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I'm looking for a great kilt, for the best deal - quality + price = great deal. I probably want MacDonald Modern but haven't decided for sure. So 4 or 5 choices won't do.

    Pastorsteve,

There seems to be some confusion here. First you've posted your inquiry in the USA Kilts subforum, but you are inquiring about other makers, no? Perhaps you would like the mods to move your thread to the general or traditional forum.

Second, I think when you used the term "great kilt" you meant a terrific kilt, but the phrase can interpreted, as it was by theScot, to mean a belted plaid (the blanket style of DIY kilt worn mostly be reenactors.)

Now perhaps it is I who am confused, but if not, you might want to rephrase your question and get the mods to help.

    Best regards,

    Jake

Cost wise, the best price on an 8 yard, 16oz wool, machine sewn, made-in-Scotland-kilt that I am currently aware of is at Tartanweb.

Their prices and that of their sister site, scottishkilts.net tend to fluctuate, sometime wildly, but right now you can get the aforementioned Modern MacDonald tartan with a choice of mills (Jura range from Marton Mills, or Strome range from Lochcarron) for $240 US, plus shipping and possible import duty.

I don't currently own one of their kilts, but they have gotten positive reviews here on Xmarks, though their customer communication is said to be only so-so.

    Happy hunting.

    Best regards,

    Jake
