Kilts good for busted ribs!
Close to 2 weeks ago we had a nominal snow/ice event here in NC. Nothing new, except I have to at least try to get up and get to work on these nasty mornings. On this particular one the pavement decided to jump up and bite me, and in the process of falling I broke my watch (saved me from breaking my wrist actually) and cracked at least one rib and bruised another, all on my left side. I'm used to being up all the time, lifting stuff, going to the gym, etc. and I haven't been able to do that at all. I'm still in moderate pain after a week and a half, but getting better. Anyway, the one thing that seems to really help support the ribs and makes them feel better is wearing my SWK Black Watch heavyweight! Now if I could only convince the work folks to let me wear it to the office to get me through the workday more easily.

Get a letter from your Doctor that you need it for support reasons. Your workplace might not have a leg to stand on after that.

Depending on your job that could work. As an old branch manager, I would have accepted a note for my office staff, but not my field personnel.

I can certainly see how the high rise of a traditional kilt would support your ribs. The letter from your doctor is certainly worth a try.

Would a letter from a Doctor of Kiltology help?
I am sure many of us could write you one.

It's more about the company protecting its assets than depriving the employee of his rights. The U.S. has become a litigious society. Allowing an injured employee to continue in a job that could further aggravate a preexisting injury could put the employer in a position of responsibility for the employee's medical costs, worker's comp, etc., even though the original injury happened outside of the workplace (some states are worse than others in this regard.) Fraudulent disability claims are also an area of concern for employers. In the end, this all costs the employers more money, and of course these costs are passed on to the clients and customers (depending on the type of business.)
