    Kilted Observations

I wear a kilt as part my marching uniform and on special occasions. Today was a local parade, so daughter and wife now could/would come see me. Afterwards we went to McDonalds.. caught some glances but otherwise nothing special in terms of responses.... Met the band for a performance at a local restaurant and afterwards I walked home. I made a point of walking right down the main strip in town. Granted I was in possession of a bag pipe.. but again not much of a reaction except for some waving, beeping and smiles .. and one "hey baby!" from a girl (luckily)...

hmmm.. maybe I should wear this more often...

I would be so thrilled to see a man walking along in a kilt! I have seen one guy just walking in a kilt (utilikilt) in the last ten years. Of course, I see kilts at Scottish events, but I would like to see more around and about.

My guess is that women like to look at you when you wear the kilt. Others will no doubt corroborate.

At least you don't get the question, "where're your bagpipes?"

When I'm dressed formally, no one bats an eyelash. It's when I'm dressed casually that people seem to really take notice. It's a very different reaction when you're in a kilt and an Iron Maiden shirt than when you're in a kilt and a Prince Charlie. PC... People seem to assume that you're wearing some sort of costume for a special event. Iron Maiden shirt? You're just a weirdo to some- and sexy as hekk to others.

Love it. When one is full of pride it really is a great feeling, and no rude comments.

    True enough!

Trouble is if I walked around carrying bagpipes I might be asked to play them!

I hear ya there. Yesterday I was meeting with some kilted folk in the morning. Afterwards I had some errands to run and stop at the store to pick up some items for dinner. Well I got over a dozen "nice legs","that's hot", "now that's a man", "I wish my husband could pull that off", "whoa, I wonder if he is single, he probably isn't he's too good looking" (I am single ). I also heard stuff like " Hey you've got some Scottish in you why don't you wear a kilt. If you do I'll do something nice for you" and so on. While in line I was getting all that hooting and hollering stuff from the ladies. It's kind of funny because I always thought the ladies think it rather rude if a man does it to them. I'm not a piece of meat damn it !! I thinks it's funny too when they get to talking and they don't think you can hear them. Boy the things they'll say. Some can't be posted in a family forum . This lady then comes tugging from behind "excuse me what tartan is that" and so on, then one of the managers of the store that knows me (He was born in Scotland) came up and said "I can wring you up right over here so you don't have to wait". I then offered to the lady that was talking to me to go ahead and I could wait. She started to walk away to be checked out and turned and said "now wait a second, I'm not done with you". The kilt does bring about some sort of magic with the ladies.
