SWK Wool Kilts - Advice

Love my SWK wools. Not as heavy as a tank. Perfect for warmer climates (like Texas). Easy to steam to smooth the pleats.

These are not strome wool. Strome wool is a 16 oz twill weave. Jerry's are about 13 oz wool, but the wool is not the same high quality weave you would get, say, from Locharron. That said, I have a Black Watch and a Saffron wool kilt from SWK. Excellent quality for the price.

And if nothing else, if you get it and aare not statisifed with I' m sure can send it back.

CAUTION: If you remove the basting stitches you cannot return a kilt. Be sure to check a vendors return policy.

I have a SWK MacRae Hunting in wool. Wear it at least once a week. Not bad for the price, but the selvage is a bit rough.

McFarkus put it right. It's not a top-of-the-line tank; it's a very nice, lower priced kilt, and I love my Leatherneck tartan. It's about a 13 oz wool, and for regular use, it'll probably do most people quite well.

I recommend Jerry's kilts and expecially his customer service. Just know what you're buying.

StillWater makes a nice kilt. I wouldn't suggest that they are the quality of a hand-sewn, but I am very happy with my SWK heavyweights. I use them for casual wear, and they are nicely built, heavy enough, and fit rather well off the rack.

I say go for it, then save up for a tank!

The ones I have are really good for what they are, ready-made kilts. The material and workmanship are great. The weight, though, is more like that of a 13 oz. kilt, so definitely not the heavyduty garment of a handmade kilt in 16 oz.

I hate reading these posts. I just ordered two kilts from Rocky, and now I have to go ask my wife for another $130. ::headdesk::

Seriously, I've both a Stillwater heavyweight hunting MacRae and a heavyweight Black Watch. I'll second what BeeDee said about the selvege on the hunting MacRae, but, for the money, they're both very nice kilts.

Both of mine are customized to the extent that my legs are short, so I was able to get Jerry to make mine to a 22" length instead of his standard 24". Note that when you customize, you don't get his famous "arrived before you ordered it" customer service - it will take 6 weeks or so, but I'd prefer to have the nice kilting selvege on the bottom rather than a hem.

And the other thing to remember is customs are not returnable, I've got a Heavy weight custom 22" in the Black shadow tartan on order. Mr. Jone's is knocking at my door.
