It doesn't look good. Sorry. 
In the back, the tail of the jacket will cover some of the pleating and deter the sway of the kilt. (That famous sway is a major draw to the look of the kilt, at least for some ladies.)
In the front, it hangs too far down and doesn't split as a proper jacket does. And, even though a sporran would serve its function if worn in the back like a fanny pack, the fact is that it is also a stylistic piece that should be seen.
You can wear whatever you like, of course. We don't care. But a sports coat does not ever look so good as a kilt jacket. That's why we wear kilt jackets.
