the ironic thing is if they didnt get the mix up in the first place myself ,my friend and more or less the majority of folk buying kilts and hireing kilts for his wedding (and any future weddings for that matter ) would`ve went to hector russell anything up to 50+ men, i can think of about 15 i know of who had been going to use them for buying the full kit that have changed there minds ...so in the end that guy that made the mistake who works only on saturdays cost hector russell thousands of pounds say a average of what £600 -£800 for the ones buying the whole kit and then the rest of the hire party
if mistakes are common like that no wonder they cant afford to give out better quality covers

Excellent point! I neglected to point out that the items I have ordered from Scotland were first rate, despite the shipping method.
Skauwt, I will add, though, the mix up in tartans is very poor service, especially if they didn't offer to correct it.

I agree, if the kilt is of good quality, they can send it to me in a used mcdonalds bag if they so choose.

Skauwt,
I dont think you were expecting too much. From what I read, you went to pick it up at the store right? If your dropping that kind of money for ANYTHING, customer service should be right up there with the price...I buy Maui Jim sunglasses for $190 at a Sunglass Hut for crying out loud and get my @ss kissed for about an hour...you should at least get something to hang it on properly when you get home. It's really not too much to ask. This is what happens this day in age, we have a certain expectation, they dont live up to it, and we blame ourselves as customers! ***- you weren't at McDonalds for crying out loud! Hold their butts to the fire, man! Otherwise, they'll know they can get away with it and do it again and again to someone else- or worse......ok, I'll get off my soapbox now and get back under the rock from which I came....

I've a Hector Russel kilt that I purchased through their San Francisco store and received only the highest quality service and exceptional packaging. I find it interesting that they seem to have much better service and practices at their two North American locations than at their Glasgow store. Perhaps the problem isn't Hector Russel but those Glaswegians?

Cessna is correct a kilt carrier is extra in most cases.I have purchased 3 kilts from HR. (Shame that Edinburgh woollen mills bought them up). All except one them came in plastic carriers.
The kilts are great and that's what matters

My kilt from Hector Russell in the High St in Edinburgh came packed in a sturdy cardboard box.

Thinking back, the only time any clothing I purchased came in a garment bag (even an inexpensive disposable kind) was when I purchased a sport coat or suit. I wouldn't really expect a kilt to be supplied in a garment bag.
Maybe people have different expectations depending on where they are from.
Most of the kilts we sell at museum are shipped out, but for those picking them up in store they either usually wear them out, or we carefully fold the kilt and give it to them in a shopping bag to carry home, with verbal instructions on how to hang it once they reach home to avoid wrinkles. Never had a single person ask for a garment bag.
