A bow tie with a school stripe would also look good and more "daytime" than a black bow tie.

The spread collar shirt would be worn with the four-in-hand neck tie, as far as I know.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I wear my Royal Scots Club tie with everything-- I don't worry about it matching, and in fact I'm secretly pleased is it doesn't. Anyhow, as Ted has said above, you want a spread collar, not a wing collar-- unless you habitually wear wing collars during the day!

The argyle would be most appropriate, given the time of day and outdoor location of the event. Your instincts serve you well!

What about hose? I am wearing Hunting Macintosh

with black jacket. I presently have dark green and cream hose. Should I invest in a dark grey?
I think I'm going with either a plain yellow or a yellow with white polka dot tie.
Thanks for all the advice!

As others have suggested, your argyll, waistcoat, and regular necktie is just the ticket. A regular white shirt with spread collar is the one to go for. Just so you know, seeing that you are an expat, there is a difference of definition between this side of the pond(UK) and the other(USA) over what constitutes as a "dress" shirt. As I understand it and I have had it confirmed, a dress shirt in the USA is the shirt you are proposing to wear(regular white shirt). Over here a dress shirt is the type worn with formal evening wear. Be warned. Oh and have a great time at the wedding.

Hi EmbraBoy. from Embra. Just do the same as you and everybody else would back here and wear your PC with dress shirt & bowtie, waistcoat(of course) kilt, white hose & gillie brogues. Everybody will be expecting the whole caboodle and you can bet your life nobody will know any different, especially there.

Have a great time! Looks like you have plenty of advice. My only comment is drop the belt if you are wearing a waistcoat. The belt puts too much bulk under the bottom of the vest.

If you wear the PC with bow tie, you probably will be the only person not in the wedding party in a bow tie.
I would suggest that you find out how other guests will be dressed. Most of the weddings I've attended in the last 20 years or so have had a wide variety of levels of formality in the guests' dress. The Argyle (without the waistcoat), a white shirt and tie, kilt, sporran, belt/no belt, hose and shoes will probably be "dressy" enough, unless it's a very formal wedding at which the guests will dress accordingly. We dress much more casually over here than we used to, for better or worse...
Welcome aboard, by the way.

Considering it is an afternoon wedding, I have to second Jock in saying that the Argyll, waistcoat, spread collar shirt, and long tie are the ticket. You'll look smashing and fall right into place. As for your hose, I say try matching it with some other colour in your outfit. I believe you mentioned green hose, if they match the green in your kilt (great tartan, btw) go for it.
Welcome, from Tennessee!
Cheers,
Aaron
