Wearing a kilt to an American Daytime Wedding
Newby here, and I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times. I'm an expat planning on wearing a kilt to a daytime (2:00 p.m. start) Church wedding in the U.S. I have permission/instructions to wear my kilt, but don't know if I've to wear a black bow tie with a PC/Waistcoat or an Argyle/Waistcoat and a neck tie. At college in Scotland we all just wore argyle/bow tie, and to hell with it, but I would like to do things right.

Welcome. I think the Argyle would be best from what you have described.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

If you're being asked to wear your kilt, I think they're probably hoping you'd wear whatever you'd normally wear. Kilt, argyll and bow tie, it is!
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

The black tie and PC kit is best reserved for evening "black-tie" functions and I think it would be a bit much for a 2 pm wedding. I think your Argyle / Waistcoat and necktie idea would be appropriate. I would probably opt for a sporran that wasn't too much of a daywear/casual choice though... a semi-dress, or dress sporran would add a touch more formality.
And welcome to the forum from Savannah, GA.

I actually have PC and waistcoat, Argyle and waistcoat, and then a belt as well. I lost weight, so the belt doesn't get worn so much any more. I'm also not sure about what kind of tie I should wear, if I go with the Argyle.

From what I understand, a four-in-hand tie would normaly be worn with an argyle and five button waistcoat. I'm a little bit out of the loop lately, but I think any regimental style tie would be fine, or solid color, if you like.

My argyle is gray, so I wear a plain black tie and it looks pretty sharp. I would think any solid color that coordinates with your jacket would be fine.

A solid color necktie would work well. A neutral silver or taupe can go with just about any tartan, or you could use a color that's a close match for one of the colors from your tartan.

The Prince Charlie is more evening wear. The Argyll will do nicely for the afternoon.

That sounds good - I think I might wear my 5 button waistcoat too. If I am wearing a regular necktie, should I wear a regular spread collar white shirt with french cuffs, or a wing collar one?
