I think the preferred term is 'flag retirement' - not 'flag burning'. The former has a positive connotation, the latter is more negative.
(Per the U.S. Code, when a U.S. flag is no longer suitable for display, it should be retired - preferably by burning. Lots to be found on the web about this, so I won't go any further.)

Thanks for the information, I was wondering about this "flag burning" thing when I saw the picture.

Here's my group shot, which proves I wasn't dressed casually all day. I'm wearing my 'coon skin sporran, which a certain X-Marker was jealous of. I won't mention any names, but he's third from the right in this shot.

It was really good to meet everyone. I hated I missed out on the fun later in the day, sounds like everyone had a blast at the concert. Glen, it's good to hear that you enjoyed your (brief) stay in North Carolina.

I meant no disrespect with my comments, as I said this is not something I'd ever seen before and I found it a bit strange, thanks for the explanation.

Not a big, big deal. I know some people are unfamiliar with the practice (even many US citizens) and wanted to be sure to note the difference in the terms.
As a Scout & Scout leader, I've attended and performed many, many flag retirements over the years. Some people get upset that we're burning a flag, until they find out it's actually OK to do so.
