Battlefield Band at great San Diego venue, 11/6/09
Yes, it's a ways off but tickets have just gone on sale! The promoter is a friend and has asked us to spread the word. It's a Friday night and I can think of several places near the concert that would make for fun pre- and/or post-meeting. Let's welcome the lads to Sun Diego with a kilted concert night!

BATTLEFIELD BAND

"What the internationally renowned Irish band, The Chieftans, has done for Irish music, Battlefield Band is doing for the music of Scotland" ~ Billboard
Under the banner “Forward With Scotland’s Past,” Battlefield Band play Scottish music of rare passion and joy. Inspired by their rich heritage of Celtic music and fired by the strength of today’s Scottish Cultural scene (which they themselves have done much to create and fuel), Battlefield Band mix the old songs with new self-penned material, and perform them on a unique fusion of ancient and modern instruments -- bagpipe, fiddle, synthesiser, guitar, cittern, flute, bodhran and accordion.
This is the gold standard, the band against which all others are measured. After 30 years they still lead the way for Scottish music -- introducing new musicians, new music; always involving their ever widening audience, as they travel the world. As the Edinburgh Evening News recently stated: “The Battlefield Band is turning into a national treasure, and exemplifies the ongoing nature of Scottish musical tradition. Not seen them yet? Shame on you.”
The band is pleased to welcome its newest member Sean O’Donnell, an accomplished guitar player and singer from Derry, Northern Ireland, who has been playing music since the age of 16. He moved to Scotland in 1996, quickly becoming active in the live music scene, having played with the award-winning Scots Irish band Bionic, The Emily Smith Band, the Michael McGoldrick Band, Deaf Shepherd, and Daimh. Add him to the Battlefield Band mix of experience and musicianship -- founding member Alan Reid on keyboards and vocals, fiddle prodigy Alasdair White, bagpipe virtuoso Mike Katz -- and they're off again. A unique blend making a unique band, moving “Forward with Scotland’s Past.”

Yes, that has possibilities.
They offer a dinner and show package on the website if we wanted Italian. What other restaurants are nearby that you would suggest?

The Italian place is very good, and it's the only place I've eaten at in the area. I've noticed an self-proclaimed Irish pub a few blocks down Adams, but haven't checked it out yet. Maybe I can talk Bob into a recon sometime, see if they serve food at all and if it's any good.

Bumping for those interested. We cruised through the "pub" without even stopping -- it's just a nasty, noisy bar with nothing pub-like beyond the name -- so continue to recommend the walking-distance Italian restaurant.

There are many places within a few minute drive from the venue which is just about 5 minutes off the freeway, but there really isn't anything else in the immediate neighborhood I would recommend. The Italian place is just about across the street and has great food and service. The dinner package is well worth it. As for the venue it is a 100 year old church with fantastic acoustics. The seating is in the pews but they are padded. We have been there many times and seen some great acts. This promises to be a great one too and a great excuse to be kilted.

Bumping. . . will we see you there? We'll dine across the street at DeMille's Italian prior to the show.
