My friend is in Maryland. He contacted a few local games and organizations, but got no response, not even an acknowledgement of his interest in donating.

Why not put the items up for sale/auction here at XMTS and turn the proceeds over to the partner to donate as he wishes?

folk wonder why the world is going downhill at least your friend is kind enough to offer ,
its sad that no one took up the offer ...perhaps direct them to this site and see what happens
