Certainly is news here in Canada. Here seal hunting is by no means a lucrative business but a dangerous and necessary one. Seals will still have to be hunted to protect the fish stocks and this partly brought on by over fishing by European poachers illegally in Canadian waters. Sealing is very heavily regulated here and to strict quotas, long gone is the skinning while the animal is still alive and the carcass left on the ice, death is quick and painless and all parts are harvested pelt and meat. It's funny how the EU is banning seal pelts yet turns a blind eye to the fur farms of all over continental Europe animals harvested solely for their pelts, or how, when Britain banned fur farms in 1999 there was opposition from many countries in the EU.

And for the record I do not wear seal products, it's a personal choice.
