I mentioned to mom and sister that I had every intention of dawning the kilt and going to see my old high schol football team play ball. After a momentary pause mom says that she wishes that I not do that because se says that people get jumped for no reason. Basically she thinks that because I wear a kilt out in public that a group of people will just run up and beat the crap out of me. This is not the first time this comment has been made by her. I know she worries as a mother. But is this fear of her's waranted.

Have any of the Rabble ever been in situations where they felt threatened.

Is this a problem around the world.

I'd have to say that in a world where the kilt is not the norm, it's a good pointe of contention for anyone looking for trouble...

I've never had much more than either positive or snide comments, though recently I thought I was gonna pull my gun on a guy. That I think qualifies for "threatened." He got up in my face, or at least inside my open car door as I was trying to leave a parking lot- a precarious spot with no where to run, and pinned down if he decided to get violent. To make matters worse, I couldn't understand what he was saying! I didn't know if he was drunk (we were in a package store parking lot) or on drugs or what. In fact, he picked up on my posturing (ie ready to draw), and it only got him riled up! Some how he backed down and I left without incident.

And just for the record, I would consider it wise to use such tactics (ie pulling your gun) only as the absolute last resort. A big fat legal head ache in the least, and likely as not you'll end up handcuffed and in a cell for the night for your trouble.

The one time I wore a kilt (borrowed, unfortunately not my own, or it'd have been more than once), I went about my day as normal. Most comments made about the kilt were highly complimentary ones, and only a couple were negative ones regarding the "skirt" I was wearing, which I quickly and effective disarmed with an explanation of why the kilt is more masculine than a pair of pants.

I never felt threatened, afraid, etc. while experiencing the comfort and freedom of the kilt, but people generally don't mess with me anyway. I've been told that I can look scary. People can't always tell when I'm smiling, so imagine what a straight face looks like on me.

If you pull your firearm and shoot an unarmed person even if he/she is threatening bodily harm, you will be arrested and charged with murder. Much better to lay them out with a large stick like JolyStNick............John Walker

Unfortunately that's likely true in virtually every state (except maybe Florida), but it would be a real trick to pull out a stick as you are half-sitting in your vehicle (and trying to leave the scene), much less swing it. I wonder if that does make a difference if you're in your vehicle, like being in your home?

The flip side is that I don't know this person is unarmed, or what their intentions are other than they're halfway inside my vehicle as I'm trying to depart. If I have to wait til they pull a deadly weapon, it' probably too late for me anyway. For that matter I might rather go to jail than be disabled for the rest of my life cause some crack head flipped out... I'll wager there'd be little restitution for my medical bills and my family's anguish etc.

So are you a lawyer or what? Or a cop? A real shame that we aren't allowed to protect ourselves and our property.
