The stuff I'm using is Pellon's middle weight stuff. (I think. I stole it from my mom, who has about 300 different sorts.) It's between the stiffness of a piece of paper, and an index card. Once it's fused, it adds some stiffness to the fabric, but not a huge amount, and it does wonders for keeping cuts from continuing. And being non-woven, it doesn't unravel.

Ya, it's that part about keeping the cut from unraviling that is interesting. I can see how that would be useful even if it is to keep things together while stitching: like on a buttonhole.

Wow, what an undertaking! It's looking great so far, good luck to you

As for your miracle, I'm totally jealous. For me, without fail, I run out of bobbin thread about 2 inches into my very last seam for my project, or while I am muscling a very difficult maneuver out of my machine.

I did the other front pocket tonight, and totally forgot to take pictures. It's much of a muchness of other one though. the inner pocket is different: it's got a loop for a pen, instead of for a phone. But the location and construction are the same as the other one, including the vocabulary enhancing aspects.

I started to think about the waistband. I'd like to do it with the wales running horizontally, because I like hte visual contrast (and even though it's mostly hidden by a belt.), but that takes more joining. I've got about 18" of full width fabric, and need 50 something, including the apron overlap. So I'd need to do one join for vertical wales, but three for horizontal. the particular fabric stretches more that way (that is, it stretches so that the gap between the wales gets wider. There's zero stretch length wise.), so it'll have to be interfaced to prevent that. Part of it will be above the pleats, and will have to interface for bulk. Maybe the inner waistband should be done in something other than self-fabric.

I don't know how you are doing those welt pockets. I have a devil of time with regular cotton much less thick cord. My machine tells me "No thank you" when I go over 10 layers of twill. I contiune to wish you luck.

I need to figure out some kind of way to hand sew those non-wool fabrics, I think I could actually work with pleating corduroy. In fact, I think they do have corduroy cut in a check pattern...

Maybe a stretcher board to clamp the fabric to with a bit of pull on it, and a long thin needle.

the machine will sew anything I can get between the table and the presser foot. the back pockets were pretty much the limit of what it can do. I had to disengage the feed dogs to be able to shove the thing into place. And I've worn out a couple of needles.
