The Navy tartan is a proprietary tartan to Strathmore Woolen Mills in the UK. I had paid them a flat fee for the 'right' to weave 130 M of that tartan a year or so ago, but we're pretty much out of it now (might be enough for 1 more kilt or so). After that we're not going to carry it any more as it's too expensive to pay for the right to weave it, and then pay a higher than average cost to have it specially woven. OTHER companies in the low end of the market do not pay those royalties, but still produce the tartan. We just don't agree with reproducing a tartan without permission, so we don't.

The Leatherneck (AKA Marine Corps) tartan is available for anyone to produce, but with Jerry from SWK and SK and others selling it, we opted not to carry it as part of our stock range. If anyone is looking for a quality (yet cheap) kilt in the USMC tartan, check out SWK (stillwater kilts).

BTW... I appreciate you checking with us first!

    Rocky,
If there's enough US Navy PV tartan left for a 44 waist - I'd like to buy your last kilt in that fabric. Although I am an Air Force/Air Guard type, I served a year on a joint tour with the Navy in Iceland. (back when we had a base in Iceland)
    Thanks, ColMac
