They are laced with the "whip stitch", that is ok for holding two pieces of leather together that will not have much stress on them or to finish a raw edge, but, it allows small items to slip through, or should the lace break it will open up if there is any weight on it. I've been doing leather work as a hobby for a number of years and have made many a pouch and belt bag, I wouldn't use the whip stitch except as a decorative stitch on a flap or to finish a raw edge. I wouldn't put too much weight in any of the sporrans shown, small stuff, maybe, but not too small. Just my $0.02 worth as a leather worker. Others milage may vary.
