I've been practicing making Bear paw designs in relief on clay tiles so that I can have a paw cantle cast. If I were able to do the tooling and stamping on leather, I would defenatly put Bear paws embossed on a leather sporran.

I do hope to some day have a paw motif cantle on a bear fur sporran.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

The bear paw tooling started with a stencil from a Tandy Leather store. There are several paw sizes, front and back paws, and even a growling head on the stencil. I don't know if that'll help with your clay work, but it might give you a consistent starting point, at least. If this link works, check it out here:

PM me, and I'll hook you up with my local Tandy store, here in Columbia, SC, and they'll ship to ya. (a little shameless plug, I know, but my wife works there!)

The bear-paw sporran isn't a bad idea at all...might have to try that. I'm currently busy with other leather projects at the moment, but some day I'm going to make some sporrans, for sure....mainly 'cause I'll need one or two myself!

But, I'm also not interested in hijacking business from the other very talented sporran makers on here....for example, I'm sure the "other" Donnie on here would be more than happy to put a bear-paw on one of his beautiful sporrans for you if you asked nicely.. His sporrans are well beyond what I can do right now anyway.

    Thanks,
    Donnie K.
