I rather like the Monteith myself. I've never seen that before. Nice modern look.

I think it needs a cutaway for the sporran too.

The cutaway makes or breaks a kilt jacket (also the length but mostly the cutaway). It doesn't have to be drastic but it does need to be there.

The Lommond Jacket is not really that much longer than an average Argyle style. I think it's not having the sporran cut-away that is throwing your eye off.

If you look at pictures of an Argyle Style you will see that the bottom of the jacket is about the same length at the sleeve.
The Lommond is just an inch or so longer.
Now if you look at Rogerson's hacking Jacket you will see that the bottom of the Jacket is quite a bit lower than the end of the sleeve.

A Jacket cut for a Kilt should have the bottom hem just at or slightly above the bottom of the Fell. Or at the widest part of the Hips and Butt.

While a Suit coat or Jacket cut for trousers should be about at the bottom of the buttocks. This is to hide the crease or pucker formed in the seat of trousers because of the legs.

Another thing you will notice as a difference in the Hacking Jacket and a Kilt Jacket is the cut of the waist area. Most Jackets made for Kilts will be much more form fitting. What we used to call "European" or "Italian" style.
The hacking Jacket was supposed to be full in the waist because you were seated on a horse.

I agree. Modern, streamlined, a nice twist on the traditional jacket.

    Thanks for the details Steve.

I agree, I really like the Monteith and Sherrifmuir, though I would like to see colors offered other than black.

I think the Lomond would look better in a tweed, myself. It seems to be more suited as a daywear jacket.

Add my name to the "No interference with the sporran, please" list. While I like the style of the Lommond on its own quite a bit, I'm afraid the overlap when combined with a sporran would only annoy me.

I'm not convince by the Lommond~ it just doesn't look right to me. The Monteith is better, but I'd like to see other colours.
