New trend in kilt jackets emerging?

There's a Scottish-based menswear retailer, Slaters, who have a pretty good reputation for quality and price. They have been very successful in recent years and begun to open stores further south. Following my thread of a couple of days ago, when I mentioned I was looking for a low cost kilt jacket, I did a Google search and Slaters appeared. It had never occured to me to look at their site, but there we go!

Imagine my surprise when I did so and found a whole range of variations on a theme of the kilt jacket!

In particular, I am large (in the UK, technically obese) and I've realised that I cut a better look in garments that come down over my kilt top and don't involve wearing a great big shiny buckle! In other words, pullovers.

So, take a look at their site, and especially at the jackets, like this one:

I wonder whether this could be the start of a new trend among kilt wearers - the longer jacket? If so, many items in my old bifurcated wardrobe could find a new lease of life!

I personally, do not like the "Lommond" jacket. If it were cut away more in the front, maybe.

OTH, I find the "Monteith" quite nice, as well as the simple lines of their "Sheriffmuir."

Agreed...I am also interested in the black button look as well for some uses, but I think the Lommond might interfere with the sporran too much... without a view of the back, my guess is that it may hide more of the pleats than I would like as well.

It would take some getting used to, not sure that I like it at all, but to each their own. It is hardly Traditional Highland Dress. This topic moved to Kilt Accessories.

I agree on the "Lamond". IMHO, it seems to be a "Saxon cut"

But I do like their black button Montieth & Sheriffmuir Jackets.

It has the appearance of a hacking jacket, except it is not done in tweed. I doubt that I could get used to the jacket having a traditional sportscoat cut.

Thanks for the post. It is great to see an alternative or two to the kilt jacket. It does not look like the Lommond works well with a sporran. It might work with a contemporary kilt with pockets. I could imagine a tweed Lommond with a mocker style UK for example.

The Sherriffmuir is a clever jacket alternative.
