A kilt "in the wild" in Cincinnati

For dinner tonight I met my best bud, Ken, for dinner at a Thai restaurant in the Clifton neighborhood of Cincinnati. I messed up, though, showing up at my favorite Tex-Mex place up the road first, thinking that was where we had agreed to meet. When I walked in, there enjoying a meal with his family was Corbitt, one of the bartenders from Nicholson's, the downtown Scottish pub. He was not in a kilt, but asked about mine, the khaki UK Mocker I wore with a windowpane plaid shirt. He thought it was cool - which thrilled me, because I think Corbitt is cool.

Anyway, I figured out I was in the wrong place, chug-a-lugged my margarita, and hied down the street to the Thai place.

After dinner, I was walking back to my car when I heard someone shout out, "Nice kilt!" I turned toward the voice, and saw a fellow wearing a black UK original getting out of his car. He bustled over to my side of the street where we chatted for a bit. He said he tried to wear his as often as he could, but that they kept "shrinking." I asked if he was active on any of the kilt forums on the web. His daughter peremptorily informed me they were re-enactors. I sort of think now he might be the proprietor of one of the shops on the block that carries a lot of knives and jewelry and replica armor, about whom I had heard once from someone tending the store that he owned a kilt. All in all, it was a pleasant exchange, and I hope to bump into him again soon.

    Regards,
    Rex.
