    Actually Jamie, I think you hit it. It's my understanding that Marines (especially Drill Instructors) really really really hate pockets.

    Not to usurp the thread, but my Dad used to tell a story where his DI caught him with a hand in his pocket a bit too long, so he was ordered to run down to the beach, fill his pockets with sand, and sew them shut. I don't remember how long he had to keep them this way, but he never liked to put his hands in his pockets - and discouraged me from doing so.

    I did want this kilt to be a traditional, even though its made in a contemperary style, so to say (machine sewn).
    I hardly put my hands in my pockets.. but that goes beyond the Marines... I was raised in a military home..my Dad retired from the Air Force, after 22 years..
