Of course the "Irish kilts" subject may have worn itself out for this month anyway!
My sincere apologies, Paul, for causing offence. It was not my intent to do so.

Todd..... you didn't cause offence, it simply was the latest in off topics.... and there had been several exchanges on the MD line....

"Pedanrty" vs. Inaccuracy?

Might I suggest that you read up on The Scottish Episcopal Church before you suggest we aren't Episcopalians? The established church in Scotland, until being replaced by Presbyterianism in 1690, was the Church of Scotland, a part of the greater Anglican communion. After disestablishment it became the Scottish Episcopal Church.
Following the American War of Independence it was the Scottish Episcopal Church who provided the line of apostolic succession for newly created American Bishops in the Episcopal Church in the fledgling United States.
In Ireland not a single member of the Episcopate of the Church of Ireland (Anglican Communion) has been seen conducting services whilst wearing a kilt. Further proof, if such is needed, that the Irish didn't and don't wear the kilt. Even to Mass on on Sundays-- a fact I shall Gloriously celebrate tomorrow!

What I want to know is, do the Irish wear white kilt hose? If so, should they?

No we do not, nor should anyone in my opinion.

Awesome use of the word 'pedantry' in a sentance O'Callaghan! If you have a vocabulary, don't be afraid to use it!

May I suggest that what Matt and others are saying is that facts have to be verifiable. Anything else is speculation (as CajunScot pointed out)...or wishful thinking.
To define the kilt as a once and future leine is to fall into Humpty's camp...with all the attendant consequences.
Taken to its logical conclusion, I don't know where you would (or could) draw the line between history and the phantastical (sic) representations at a Ren Faire.

For that matter Most Scots clans acquired their tartans in the 19th century or later, with pehaps a dozen Scots clans having a tartan before that. Tartans in ancient times were mostly no more than pretty patterns with no particular significance, no matter who you were.

The Ohio War is well know around here, and there are many people still very bitter about it. Some even think it is the basis for the UM/OSU rivalry.

Does that mean Michigan was the winner? Or the other way round?
