Too long?

I've seen a number of folks wear their kilts up just below the ribs and I'd feel awkward but it works for them.

Try wearing it just an inch higher and see how it feels/take a picture for us.

It takes some getting used to but kilts really need to be worn a lot higher than we are used to wearing trousers (at least modern ones)

An inch higher would be very near my armpits, I'm afraid. I actually hiked it up quite a bit already to show the knees. I do wear my jeans at my hips, like most people, but I understand that the kilt is worn high, and I think that two inches or so above the navel is what I'm comfortable with. It's still quite a bit higher than I wear pants or shorts. If I'm wearing a formal jacket with this kilt, I'll hike it up as far as it needs to go for the proper length because the top is concealed anyway, but I think I may violate the "two fingers above the knee" rule for length when I wear this one out to games, because my tucked in T-shirt conceals nothing, and I'd rather have my waist comfortable than show my bonnie knees.

I can't see the top straps because your belt and sporran are in the way in the photos.

If the Kilt is made properly the smallest part of the waist should be at the center of the top strap. The Kilt should then flare back out above the straps.

When you put on the Kilt don't think about where it fits in the front. It's in the back that will tell.

Place your hand with the fingers spread around your side. Your fingers should be touching your spine and covering where your kidneys are. Your thumb should be just below your ribs.

Then bend sideways toward your thumb. Can you feel your thumb go into a small space just below the ribs and about equal to your kidneys?

That's your natural waist. Then strap on the Kilt with the top straps at the place your thumb was and voila. A properly worn Kilt.

Then the Kilt Belt goes on right on top of the top straps.

The Sporran should then go on and be high enough for it to sit on the lower part of your stomach. If it gets too low the sporran strap will catch on the aprons and cause them to pucker up.

Yes, it will feel strange there at first. But after you have worn it a few minutes it will start to feel very secure and protective there.
