Enjoy!
One feature that comes through strongly is the abundance of facial hair. I see Willie MacDuff isn't wearing a sporran but from the looks of his jacket uses his pockets instead. No doubt full of all kinds of fishing lures!

Ah, those were the days when the ghillies were ghillies and the salmon were actually there to be caught!

Just adding a couple of my other favorite paintings from the Victorian era:
Queen Victoria & John Brown:
Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and royal retinue fording the River Tarff in Glen Tilt, painted by Carl Haag in 1861:
Is it just me or does that look like John Brown leading Victoria's horse across (between Victoria & the horses head)?

Looks to me like there's a kilted ghillie at the head of every lady's horse.

Notice the men wearing kilts on horseback. Evidently it was done.

Yep. During the '45, old John Gordon of Glenbucket was described as riding a grey Highland pony while wearing his Feileadh-Mhor.

I think the Haag painting shows a kilted ghillie catching a ride across the river, so only shows the kilt being worn mounted temporarily.
