Why don't try piperhoses? I'm a tall guy with long legs and had the same problem as you. Then I found this website: http://www.college-of-piping.co.uk/a...Kilt_Hose.html, and they don't cost a fortune.

Andy, not all kilt hose have to reach just two fingers below the knee. If you look at photos of soldiers, all of their hose reach mid-calf. Not be afraid to show more skin!

from what i've read so far, everybody's real cool about 'wear what works for you as long as you're wearing a kilt' - which is great, and i love the support here, but i don't want to end up in some 'what not to wear' thread in the future.
Yes, It's ok. You aren't wearing a uniform; you're expressing your own individuality. However, along the way to finding your own style, you will make some decisions that you will look at in the pictures or the mirror and say to yourself "don't do that again." Just accept that it will happen, and go on.
There are no "rules" (though some would argue otherwise) for wearing the kilt casually. I only wear kilts casually, and 99% of my sock wear is scrunched down over chukkas or boots; in the summer, when it's hot, I sometimes just wear flip flops.
Do lots of browsing, and get a feel for what kind of "look" you want to present, and let that guide you in making your own personal decisions.
If you are looking for more alternative sources, this thread has a few as well.

Hey Andy, Welcome!
I have a few pairs of SK "sport hose" and they seem ok for the desert heat here in CA, so a little short is ok (granted, I also prefer to wear hose at the top of the calf). Seamus also has a "premium" version that I bought a few of, and they are definitely a higher caliber hose. Sock. Thing. Only four colors, so . . .
And Iolaus, since it was blazing hot in the OC last week, I opted for my sportkilt and flips at Disneyland . . . worked out quite well!

Heh heh. Being in Westminster, I'm close enough to still get a sea breeze; I didn't realize how hot it was for the rest of Orange County 'til I went up to Fullerton for something. I hopped into an air conditioned car in the very low 80's, and stepped out into a blast furnace! I think the 10 miles makes 10 degrees difference. Really makes me think twice about someday leaving the coast for a more rural setting!
