Your song sir.
Well, we left the Bay of Fundy on a dark and stormy night,
With Capt. Morgan at the wheel, the crew was full of fright.
The hold was full of salted cod, we were Barbados bound.
We looked on high and said our prayers, "Don't let us run aground."
The wind, it howled, the rain it stung as it thrashed us 'bout the ears,
The bosun said "A storm like this comes once in 20 years."
The cook poured out our rations, he said t'would keep us warm,
"Tis just a dram of Nelson's blood, t'wont do you any harm."
Come sunrise, the skies were clear, a good wind at our back,
The porpoises were silver grey, all the seals were black.
We made our port in Barbados and off-loaded our fish
And loaded up with Newfie Screech as was the owners wish.
I'm now back home where all is well, in fact a bit ho hum.
So shut yer gob ye landlubber and pass me o'er the rum.

And there you've got my own favourite!
There's always a jug of Screech in the cabinet around here.
When I lived Away I used to like Bacardi's 12-year-old, but they quit making it and went to 8-year which wasn't as good. I like Gosling's Black Seal occasionally, but after that first heady sip it tends to taste kinda blah to me. Screech just keeps giving.

So would that make Screech "the piece of Cod that passes all understanding?"*
*See: http://www.geocities.com/sky_lar/nfldscreech.html. in Northern Iowa and Minnesota, Lutefisk is the "piece of Cod that passes all understanding."

I've recently discovered Sailor Jerry's Spiced Rum. It's got a smoother taste and higher alc% than our good Captain's does!

Yes! I forgot about sailor Jerry's. Good stuff if you like spiced rum (which I do on occasion). My wife is much more of a rum drinker than I and likes to try different types. I found that Sailor Jerry's is more to my taste than Captain Morgan. Like you said, it's smoother. Plus, I love the old school tattoo imagery on the bottle. For those of you that like the Captain, give Jerry a try.

Hmm...I just realized that I've contributed a lot to this thread. I'm not sure what to make of that. I don't have a problem, I swear!

I was a fan of Captain Morgan until Sailor Jerry had his way with me.

Dare I suggest Bacardi 151 straight up?

Many years ago during my career in the British Army I spent 2 years on a Royal Naval Air Station and we got the rum ration every day-that was special.
After that 2 years I used to buy a bottle of Pussers 95 proof every Christmas, if I could find it. If couldn't find Pussers I used to get Woods Old Navy 100 proof which is also a lovely smooth rum.

I've never tried a spiced rum. That Sailor Jerry looks interesting and seems to be highly recommended, I must try it.
