I always take it as a reminder that I'm not so smart when folks approach me with "that look" and I gear up for a kilt comment and they remark about my shirt or my Z Coil shoes.

Then I wonder if they're toying with me by not mentioning the kilt...

Man could go crazy trying to figure out what's on other folks minds....or, as Freud said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." So maybe the just like the shirt or the shoes....

Silly people...can't you see my kilt!?

Once I was at the Farmer's Market when a gentleman came up to me and said I inspired him, and walked off and didn't tell me why.

As far as Z-coils are concerned, someone asked me if they were part of the Scottish garb.

Well, it is nice to know it isn't always about the kilt. The only time I've not had it be about the kilt was at a Scottish Festival. Any other time, it seems like it is the kilt or nothing.

Sometimes it's not about the kilt. Sometimes it's about what's underneath. Sometimes I wish it were just about the kilt.

I've found I get comments on my top hat as much or more than I get comments on my kilts. I often wear them at the same time though.

I'll reprise this story from 10-10-2006 for this thread:

I won't hazard marital advice, but I have been to a number of performances at the theater kilted. And as someone else said, unless you are on stage, no one sees the kilt when the lights go down and the curtain goes up.

However, people-watching in the lobby during intermission is always great sport.

A few weeks ago, I saw The Light in the Piazza here in Cincinnati. During the intermission, I noticed a number of slow glances downward in my direction - some along noses with chins pulled back - but my kilt was mostly ignored and unnoticed.

While my companion left to attend to his personal needs, I stood and scanned the crowd, exchanging nods of silent greeting here and there, when I turned and faced a gentleman not far from where I was standing, grinning at me from ear to ear.

He approached me and extended his hand. "I'd just like to say..." he began.

Ah, here it comes, I thought, and prepared myself to go in to gracious mode.

    "...you have the most magificent..."

    Wow, he is really impressed!

    "...moustache!"

At this point, I think I heard a timpani tuning and a spring come loose in my head, as I switched gears for the unexpected compliment.

    Rex.

Was out shopping before the holidays last year, and passed a little boy out shopping with his dad.

"Look dad, that man's wearing.... (wait for it) ... boots!" he exclaimed.

Had to work hard to keep from laughing.
