Sounds like you've gotten a lot of good advice and encouragement, so all I can say is:
Welcome to X-Marks - from Music City, USA - Nashville, TN !!

It takes a bit of effort to swish a 16 oz. kilt more than it naturally does, so I would not worry about your hips twirling the kilt. Plus, if anybody gives you hassle you feign a bit of anger and make them feel like a heel for teasing a disabled guy.
I think your work friend has it right.

You sir are surrounded by many good friends and you have just the right attitude for wearing a kilt, your only problem may be escaping your adoring female fans. I suggest you surrender early and often.
Welcome to XMarks!

Hahah, frankly I tend to de-sensitize people with the disabled thing, people can say what they want, although the general rule seems to be people are careful what they say, not because it may crush me, but because of what i might say back...shamelessly... :P
Anywho I think this whole thing will work out, and I will get some pictures going. I happen to really like my clan modern tartan :P

I use braces or suspenders because
Beaten again... and if you have a jacket or other garment on over top, no one would be the wiser...

I'll echo the braces/straps line again. Once I started losing weight my "original MUG" (aka Utilikilt original) wouldn't fit but I wasn't willing to give it up. With the Utilikilt, I just used a cheap pair of snap-on braces. It's not the traditional look, but hey.
Congratulations, man.

When your kilt arrives. you might want to post your location so a nearby X-Marker can come by to check it out and make sure everything's ship-shape.
Do you plan to wear kilt hose with it? If so, there are several of us here who could make some to fit your legs. And by the way, not all of us have monstrous calves.

I will definitely keep braces in mind. I'm thinking if i get it snug enough it should be ok but we'll see.
Meanwhile, I'm in Moncton NB, I'm not sure there's an X markers really close to me, but maybe close enough?! I will definitely post pictures, that's a start. I do plan on wearing hose, yes. I am thinking of wearing them with flashes if I can get them snug enough, if not, I just may have to tak someone up on that offer!!
