Silk handles so much better than polyester. Ties nicely and the knot comes out cleanly.

Wool is nice, too. Good drape and doesn't crease

I do prefer a wool tie when wearing a kilt, originally I listed wool as one choice but was not certain about a striped tie in wool.

I can't say I've ever seen a regimental/old school/club tie in wool. Silk is the "authentic" option.

I would be interested in a silk Xmarks tie.
