They're bound to be good folks if that's the case!
I have a silver dogwood (state flower) pin that I wear as a kilt pin or plaid brooch, Gen. Newsome is making me a Carolina box-pleat, and you know about my 'coon skin sporran, which not-so-willingly gave its life about 5 miles from my house. My red cable hose were knit from wool grown in the county where my father's family lives (and has lived for several generations), and I'm trying to figure out a way to buy/make a cardinal (state bird) and dogwood pin to wear as a brooch. If I ever get industrious I'm going to carve a sgian handle from black walnut and have a local knife maker fit a blade to it.
By the way, I thought Florida's state bird was the mosquito. My in-laws live in Hawthorne and that's what they say.

I wear local (Northumberland) roadkill pheasant feathers for my Glengarry when on the road with the Tartan Army. I use a couple of tiny feathers as a backing to my Lovat Fraser cap badge at all other times, along with a sprig of Yew from a local tree.
I also wear a horse head/horseshoe tie clip when wearing a tie on dress-up occasions. It was made by my dad in a factory in Mount Morris upstate NY in 1948. He had emigrated for one year but my mum got cold feet and decided not to follow him out so he had to come home.
I reckon, think Alba, use local, is a good maxim to follow. Part of the nature of a Scottish connection or just being a Scotophile is that we embrace the diaspora as part of our history/culture.

I don't think a bulldog sporran would go over to well here!

Like Ted I try and "New Mexico" up with local stuff. I have a Turquoise and Sliver belt buckle that I use instead of the traditional "Celtic" buckle. As well as a kilt pin or two that started life as something else. Kilts and western style vests actually work fairly well, as so certain style hats.....my favorite is a Charley One Horse Calvary hat with silver conchos. Western style shirts also work if not too busy. IMHO only, sorry trads we don't have a lot of heather around here. I guess I could put a snakeweed leaf or a cactus pad in my bonnet!
