These days, as I'm back in my RN uniform as a District (visiting) Nurse, it'd be impossible for me to wear my kilt. However, during my 3-4 years working for NHS Direct a while back, in a call centre-type environment, I often used to wear it in.

I made sure I chose St Andrew's Day as the first day then, with the seal of approval from about fifty female colleagues (some guys have all the luck ) it was plain sailing from there on!

If you're given a gift of an opportunity, take it. If you have to choose your moment, choose it well and you never know if lady "real men wear kilts" luck will shine down on you!

Way to go! I was told that my kilt was inappropriate. Then again, there is a long list of dress regulation.

    Big congrats.

So I have a similar story...currently deployed Soldier in Afghanistan. My immediate subordinate and I have convinced 5 or 6 others that we work with to buy Army Camo Pattern kilts from Sportkilt.com (well..except the one civilian who works for me that was a Marine...he bought a MarPat Camo Kilt...but same concept). Anyways...some of us have been wearing our kilts in the evening when things settle down for the day (kind of in secrecy). We've been waiting for one of our kilted band to get back off his mid-tour leave to hold our "grand unveiling of Task Force Tartan". My immediate subordinate got her kilt in the mail yesterday and was checking it out when my Deputy Commander (a full-bird colonel) walked in the office last night. He kinda looked at her funny and she explained that it was a kilt. In his usual cantankerous manner he stated "That's just gay!"...not really meaning anything serious by it...you just kinda need to know the guy...he's really cool and relaxed...but very intimdating at the outset. I told him that if he thinks that her wearing a kilt is gay, he'll really think it's gay when I wear my kilt too. He asked why and I explained that we had started a new club..."Task Force Tartan". He just shrugged his shoulders and cocked his head and walked out of the office. LACK OF OPPOSITION IMPLIES CONSENT! LOL.

Congratulations! Now don't forget to post a picture from work, or as you know it didn't happen.

I can get a picture from work, maybe I'll ask Joe (center manager) to take it with him ;)

You know, to prove it happened, haha

My current gig isn't conducive to wearing a kilt: I'm up and down ladders all day. Of course, the women that work there don't get to wear skirts, so it's even.

I asked my director and got a similar response to the OP. "I want to see it, so wear it. If anyone gives flak, point them to my office." Only did it for tartan day, though. Looking for another opportunity. Probably Hallowe'en (yeah yeah).

Congrats! Wear it with pride and take pictures
