    Kilted in the Norwegian mountains

For a while now, I have planned a hiking trip in the mountains, just me and my dog. When I got blessings from the wife there was nothing stopping me from going.

I chose to go on a 4-day trip in Jotunheimen, one of Norway's national parks with some of Norway's highest mountain.
Nature here is overwhelming and you feel pretty small and alone in these mountains.
I was camping in my tent and carried with me food for both me and my dog (the backpack weighed 25 kg).

The plan was of cause to go kilted. I realised that the kilt is wonderful hiking apparel. It is warm, yet airy. 18 oz wool is quite wind proof and protects well against the light rain. I used gaiters and waterproof mountain boots because it was very muddy after lots of rain during the summer.
The first day was gray and rainy and at night the wind rain was terrible. The next day the sun was shining and it was a fantastic day. The good weather lasted the rest of the trip, but it was pretty cold at night.

    So to the pics:

The face of Aasmund Olavson Vinje(1818 - 1870). He gave this mountain area its name: Jotunheimen (Old Norwegian, Means "The home of the giants").

The tracks are well marked with red T's and cairns.

This bridge had a warning sign that said only one person at a time. I was a bit skeptical.

    More to come.............

The dog (Balder) needs food. We have still a few km to go.

You can see a pass far up front in the fog. It is our goal for the day.

After a 6 hours walk we set camp.

The kilt can be used for more than hiking apparel.

The next day the sun was shining.

I am ready to conquer the mountain.

    More to come.................

    Hiking in a Kilt

Great pics, thanks. I often go hiking in my kilt in UK and it is the best garment by far, winter or summer, although not good at high altitude in winter.

You can see lots of these types of buildings in the countryside in Norway.

Balder is a short haired german pointer. he's very strong and fast and weighs 30 kg.

Ahh...I thought he looked like he had some pointer in him, but wasn't sure

I use to have a dog that was mixed German Short hair Pointer & Husky. He wasn't pretty, and his name was "Izzy" because everyone always asked:
    "what is he?"

    New camping place.

Balder wasn't very keen on crossing this brigde.

    Time for lunch, soup.

You can see the famous "Besseggen" in the background.

The backpack is getting very heavy now.
